The Art of Happiness

Epicurus

Discover the teachings of Epicurus, which attracted legions of adherents throughout the ancient Mediterranean world and deeply influenced later European thought. In this Penguin Classics volume, all of Epicurus' extant writings are included alongside parallel passages from Lucretius, extracts from Diogenes Laertius' Life of Epicurus, and an introductory essay about Epicurean philosophy. Gain insight into life and death, religion and science, physical sensation, happiness, morality, and friendship, and understand why Epicurus counts among his many admirers Thomas Hobbes, Thomas Jefferson, Karl Marx, and Isaac Newton. Perfect for fans of bestselling author Daniel Klein's new book, Travels with Epicurus.

Book for intermediate philosophers. "Epicurus defined happiness as the absence of pain, both physical and mental...." He warned against seeking happiness in ways that will lead to future pain, or that will inflame our desires. Sounds like wisdom to me.      source
