The Empathy Diaries

A Memoir

Sherry Turkle

In The Empathy Diaries, MIT psychologist and bestselling author Sherry Turkle shares her intimate story of love and work, weaving together her coming-of-age with her groundbreaking research on technology, empathy, and ethics. Growing up in postwar Brooklyn, Turkle searched for clues to her identity in a house filled with mysteries while mastering the codes that governed her mother's secretive life. Through rich detail, Turkle captures her journey from Harvard-Radcliffe on the cusp of coeducation during the antiwar movement to her place as a woman and humanist at MIT. A master class in finding meaning through a life's work, this book illuminates our present search for authentic connection in a time of uncharted challenges.

19/100. The Empathy Diaries: A Memoir by Sherry Turkle. Loved this - Second Self was such an important book to me and Sherry's outsider's gaze to technology (+ MIT) gets depth from this book. Papert, Minsky & al are in side roles, which is nice for a change.      source
