Visions of Cody

Jack Kerouac

"Visions of Cody" by Jack Kerouac is a radical and experimental account of his voyages with Neal Cassady in postwar America during the late forties. The members of the Beat Generation are showcased before they were known by any label. Kerouac's ecstatic sense of superabundant reality is informed by the knowledge of mortality, making it a sincere and holy writing of our age.

The opening of chapter 2 of Visions of Cody, with its rhapsodic and hilarious description of Kerouac's great love, Neal Cassady, is my favorite passage of Kerouac BY FAR in any book. It's untoppable. This is just the beginning.      source
