What If There Were No Significance Tests? book cover

What If There Were No Significance Tests?

Lisa L. Harlow

This book challenges the current statistical inference practices by showcasing other options, features, and approaches to make accurate statistical inferences. The book suggests four areas as essential for making inferences - sound judgment, meaningful research questions, relevant design, and assessing fit in multiple ways. It discusses various methods that may supplement significance testing procedures, Bayesian approaches and methods, and the use of confidence intervals versus significance tests. Ideal for anyone doing research in the social sciences or graduate courses in statistics or quantitative analysis.

It is very regrettable this is only available as a book - but it is one of the best (most balanced) discussions on pros and cons of hypothesis testing out there. I had seen the book years ago, and should have read it cover to cover then. Highly recommended.      source
