Wounded

A New History of the Western Front in World War I

Emily Mayhew

Discover the medical network that arose seemingly overnight to help sick and injured soldiers on the Western Front during World War I. In this groundbreaking book, Emily Mayhew takes readers on a comprehensive and intimate journey through the unique and devastating injuries that soldiers faced on the battlefield and the innovative medical personnel who adapted and saved millions of lives. Drawing on hundreds of letters and diary entries, Mayhew allows readers to peer over the shoulder of stretcher bearers, rescue teams, and wounded soldiers themselves. Wounded is an often neglected aspect of the soldier's world and a transformative moment in military and medical history.

@sellis1808 @CeredigionArch @ExploreWellcome That's a great book! Anything by Emily Mayhew is excellent. This one focuses on WWII, but if you are interested in WWI, she has another book called WOUNDED (not about reconstructive surgery but about medical services during the Great War).      source
