Hikikomori

This book is the first English translation of a controversial Japanese best-seller that brings attention to the social problem of hikikomori, or “withdrawal”. Saitō Tamaki's work of popular psychology is based on his clinical experience with hikikomori patients and explains the development of this phenomenon. The author's perspective sparked contention over the contributions of cultural characteristics, whilst sensitively describing how families and caregivers can support individuals in withdrawal and help them take steps towards recovery.
