How Successful Academics Write
Helen Sword - 2017-04-17
Calificación de Goodreads
Discover how successful academics find "air and light and time and space" to get their writing done in this essential guide for aspiring writers. Author Helen Sword interviewed 100 academics worldwide to uncover the four cornerstones of successful writing: discipline and persistence, craftsmanship and care, collegiality and collaboration, and positivity and pleasure. Grounded in research and focused on sustainable change, this customizable blueprint offers a refreshing perspective on the writing process and exposes the lack of writing support available to early-career academics.

Teoría de los sentimientos morales book cover
Teoría de los sentimientos morales
Adam Smith - 2006-12-01 (publicado por primera vez en 1759)
Calificación de Goodreads
"HOW selfish soever man may be supposed, there are evidently some principles in his nature, which interest him in the fortune of others, and render their happiness necessary to him, though he derives nothing from it except the pleasure of seeing it. Of this kind is pity or compassion, the emotion which we feel for the misery of others, when we either see it, or are made to conceive it in a very lively manner. That we often derive sorrow from the sorrow of others is too obvious to require any instances to prove it; for this sentiment, like all the other original passions of human nature, is by no means confined to the virtuous and humane, though they perhaps may feel it with the most exquisite sensibility. The greatest ruffian, the most hardened violator of the laws of society, is not altogether without it. This is an edition of a classical book first published in the eighteenth century.

@jgkoomey @jg_environ @GlobalEcoGuy @emorwee @MaryHeglar @GhoshAmitav One of my favorite Bay Area moments was being at a dinner with a bunch of tech bros and having one of them ask me, after I scoffed at some libertarian platitude he had just spouted, if I knew Adam Smith and I said "Yes, Theory of the Moral Sentiments is one of my fave books."      fuente

I finally got a chance to read @MichaelEMann The New Climate War, and I thought it was great—and not just because I was quoted in it haha. The book is a excellent primer covering the "inactivist" strategies used by fossil-fuel interests (even those in the climate space 👀 ). 💯      fuente

@JacquelynGill I'm not sure gender differences among children under the age of 10 are so extreme that you need a special book about how to raise feminist boys in particular. But here are some feminist and queer positive books about sexuality for pre-teens and teens. 👇      fuente

El Ministerio del Futuro
A Novel
Kim Stanley Robinson - 2020-10-06

The Strategy of Environmental Treaty-Making
Scott Barrett - 2006-01-05 (publicado por primera vez en 2003)
Calificación de Goodreads
Discover how states can effectively cooperate to address environmental problems like climate change and ozone depletion. Environmental treaties are key to promoting global cooperation, but why do some succeed while others fail? This book delves into the theory behind treaty design and how it can be improved. With insights from economics, political science, and game theory, the book analyzes over 300 treaties and case studies on issues like over-fishing and global climate change. Its essential lesson: treaties must restructure the game to incentivize countries to act in their best interest.

This 2005 book is a real artifact of old-style mainstream climate discourse. Not a denier text *at all*, it nonetheless represents climate change as 1) marked by extreme uncertainty, 2) adaptable by market forces, 3) a benefit for the global north, 4) a boon for plant life. 1/2      fuente
