Pastoral Song
A Farmer's Journey
James Rebanks - 2021-08-03 (publicado por primera vez en 2020)
Calificación de Goodreads
Travel to the Lake District hills and experience the ancient agricultural landscape through the eyes of James Rebanks. Pastoral Song tells the story of James' inheritance and the collapse of rural landscapes around the world. This elegy from the northern fells is also a song of hope, a story of how one farmer began to salvage a tiny corner of England, restoring life that had vanished and leaving a legacy for the future. This book is about having love and pride in a place and how it's still possible to build a new pastoral - not a utopia, but somewhere decent for all of us.

Michael Pollan - 2018-05-17
Calificación de Goodreads
Could psychedelic drugs change our worldview? One of America's most admired writers takes us on a mind-altering journey to the frontiers of human consciousness When LSD was first discovered in the 1940s, it seemed to researchers, scientists and doctors as if the world might be on the cusp of psychological revolution. It promised to shed light on the deep mysteries of consciousness, as well as offer relief to addicts and the mentally ill. But in the 1960s, with the vicious backlash against the counter-culture, all further research was banned. In recent years, however, work has quietly begun again on the amazing potential of LSD, psilocybin and DMT. Could these drugs in fact improve the lives of many people? Diving deep into this extraordinary world and putting himself forward as a guinea-pig, Michael Pollan has written a remarkable history of psychedelics and a compelling portrait of the new generation of scientists fascinated by the implications of these drugs. How to Change Your Mind is a report from what could very well be the future of human consciousness.

A Natural History of Four Meals
Michael Pollan - 2006-04-11

This beautiful book is a meditation on creativity, discovery, and rebirth. After being awestruck by a carving in a London church, David Esterly dedicated his life to woodcarving. He is now the foremost practitioner of a forgotten technique that revolutionized ornamental sculpture. The Lost Carving explores the connection between creativity and physical work, and illuminates the passionate pursuit of a vocation that unites head, hand, and heart.

Visited Hampton Court Palace today with m’royal @MeganMullally & saw these amazing limewood carvings by #GrinlingGibbons except the last photo which was a reproduction by David Esterly, the story of which he richly details in his excellent book The Lost Carving. @offerman_shop      fuente

True Stories from Painful Beaches
John Hodgman - 2018-05-29 (publicado por primera vez en 2017)
Calificación de Goodreads
Venture into the mind of John Hodgman as he takes you through his real-life wanderings across three wildernesses, filled with freshwater clams, bad facial hair, and haunted forests. Experience the horror of Maine's beaches alongside Hodgman and learn which animals to keep as pets (and which to kill). Vacationland is wildly funny, but also a sincere account of facing middle age and settling into the wiser, weirder version of oneself.
