The King Must Die

A Novel

Mary Renault

This captivating novel explores the real-life identity of the mythical hero Theseus, known for slaying the Minotaur in ancient Crete. Author Mary Renault draws on archaeological findings and modern scholarship to bring a lifelike quality to Theseus, imbuing him with immense charisma and boundless determination, as well as weakness and implacable prophecy. Follow along on Theseus's adventures from Troizen to Eleusis and from Athens to Crete, to witness the title's prophesied death and his becoming king of the victims. Richly imbued with the spirit of the time, this daring tale is as thrilling as it is imaginative.

@monicabyrne13 @abrahamjoseph @jakebackpack I read The Persian Boy first. It’s easily in my top ten favorite books of all time and it stands alone beautifully. Then I read The Last of the Wine because it’s beloved, and I loved it too. Now I’m on The King Must Die and I don’t want it to end.      source
