A Vindication of the Rights of Pregnant Women

Lyz Lenz

This book is an impassioned argument for dismantling cultural narratives around pregnancy. The author sheds light on the misogynistic logic underlying our expectations for pregnant people, from policing them to idealizing them as "Earth mothers." Through her own experiences, she calls for new, empowering narratives around the choice to have children, ones that prioritize agency and wholeness. This urgent call to action reflects on the state of reproductive rights and maternal health in the U.S. today.

Normally when I am by myself for dinner I don’t make anything nice. I eat leftovers or a hastily constructed salad. Tonight I am making crab and roasted red pepper and onion quiche. This act of self care was inspired by @lyzl’s amazing book Belabored.      source
