Earmuffs for Everyone!

How Chester Greenwood Became Known as the Inventor of Earmuffs

Meghan McCarthy

This nonfiction picture book tells the story of Chester Greenwood, a young boy who went from having cold ears to becoming a successful inventor. When earmuffs didn't exist in 1873 Maine, Chester decided to design the first pair out of wire, beaver fur, and cloth. He received a patent for his design at nineteen and went on to create other clever inventions. The Smithsonian has declared Chester Greenwood one of America’s most outstanding inventors. Celebrate Chester Greenwood day on December 21 by wearing earmuffs!
