No Good Men Among the Living

America, the Taliban, and the War through Afghan Eyes (American Empire Project)

Anand Gopal

Discover the truth behind America's longest war with Pulitzer Prize finalist "No Good Men Among the Living." Follow three Afghans - a Taliban commander, a U.S.-backed warlord, and a trapped housewife - through years of U.S. missteps and false intelligence that resurrected the insurgency that persists today. With vivid personal detail, this stunning chronicle lays bare the workings of the conflict and shows how the American intervention in Afghanistan went so desperately wrong.

THREAD: 9/11 changed my entire life. I'm sure it's the same for everyone. Reckoning with those changes even 20 years on is difficult Here are some of the books over the last 2 decades which helped me make sense of everything      source

@acaseofthegolf2 @markbaldwin1 @MaMondayQInfo Mark sent me Harlem Shakes. It’s a phenomenal read. Sick Puppy is hilarious political novel about Florida. No Good Among The Living is a wonderful book about Afghanistan, as is Places in Between I love Paul Theroux’s travelogues - Dark Star Safari is a good place to start      source
