Exploring the cutting-edge science behind existential catastrophes such as climate change, artificial intelligence, and engineered pathogens, the author shows how ending these risks is among the most pressing moral issues of our time. Through over a decade of research, he offers a startling reassessment of human history and the steps we must take to ensure that our generation is not the last.

Thanks to @PGourevitch, @tobyordoxford, and @MaxCRoser for inspiring this post. I highly recommend Ord's book The Precipice, one of the best things written to date on the problem of existential risk.      source

The world can have a very good future, but there are risks that can mean that we don't have a future at all. We should be thinking about those risks now. Toby Ord's book is about those risks and I very, very much recommend it.      source

Enjoyed @tobyordoxford’s The Precipice. Odd time to read about end-of-world scenarios. Need a new book. Maybe science fiction?      source

1/4 Let me introduce you to a brilliant book!I think a lot about existential crises for two reasons: The first is that I live right near Ukraine, which has been embroiled in a military conflict for several months now. The danger of a nuclear war erupting is quite concerning.      source
