Awakenings

Oliver Sacks

This non-fiction book tells the story of the encephalitis lethargica epidemic that struck in the 1920s, and the efforts made in the late 1960s to help those who fell victim to it. Chronicling the experiences of patients at the Beth Abraham Hospital in the Bronx, New York, Awakenings is a touching and insightful look at human resilience and the power of medical breakthroughs.

38/100. Awakenings by Oliver Sacks. Had missed this one (although the Weschler biography last year was one of my favorite books). Poetic with the precision of a doctor. The encephalitis lethargica epidemic was eery read during a pandemic.      source
