The E-Myth Revisited

Why Most Small Businesses Don't Work and What to Do About It

Michael E. Gerber

Revised and updated, this business classic explores the entrepreneurial myth that most small business owners assume they're entrepreneurs. However, Michael E. Gerber shows that understanding technical work isn't enough to run a successful business. He guides readers through the stages of a business's lifespan, teaching the key distinction between working on and in your business. Whether or not it's a franchise, Gerber shows how to apply franchising principles to any business in order to grow it productively.

Absolutely everyone who is an entrepreneur or wants to be one needs to read this book. I first read it after 10 years of successfully running my company, and was still blown away and totally humbled by its wisdom. Re-reading it today, I'm amazed how my view of business was completely changed by this one little book. See my notes for examples, but definitely read the book itself to get the real impact.      source

@davinbentti I’m still technically doing client work so there’s plenty of “in” there - it’s just not the development work anymore. But E Myth is a very good book!      source
